NEW CITY – Clarkstown Police Department responded to a two-car crash at Rt. 304 and Germonds Rd. in New City at about 1:00 Sunday morning.
The sole occupant of one vehicle, a female was transported to Nyack Hospital where she was pronounced deceased. Her name is being withheld pending notifications. The sole occupant and driver of the second vehicle, Michael Mercado, 22, of West Haverstraw, was transported to Westchester Medical Center for a non-life-threatening injury.
The female driver was heading east on Germonds Road. Mercado was heading south on Rt. 304 Police say he ran a red light then struck the other vehicle.
Mercado is charged with vehicular manslaughter, a felony, DWI, a misdemeanor, refusal to submit to breath test and passing a steady red light, both violations.
Rt. 304 was closed for eight hours to conduct the investigation.
