PAWLING – An Ulster Park man was killed when the Subaru he was driving east on Route 55 in the Town of Pawling crossed into the opposite lane and struck a westbound Chevrolet.

Paul Pitt, 64, was pronounced dead at MidHudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie.

The driver of the other vehicle, Karri Lambertus, 49, of Pawling, was flown to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla with serious injuries.

Both drivers were alone in their vehicles and had to be extricated after the 2:15 p.m. accident on June 29.

The investigation is continuing by the sheriff’s office Crash Investigation Unit and at this time, authorities said the primary factor appears to be a medical issue experienced by Pitt prior to the crash.

The sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by the Pawling Fire Department.
