POUGHKEEPSIE – A pre-dawn fire has gutted the former Napoli’s Pizza building on Poughkeepsie’s Southside.

At 2:21 a.m., Poughkeepsie firefighters responded to a reported structure fire at 256 Hooker Avenue.  Firefighters from all three Poughkeepsie firehouses responded to find the 2 1/2 story wood frame building with fire blowing out of the top of the structure.

Firefighters leaped into action and had the blaze under control in about 10 minutes.

Fire Chief Mark Johnson said the cause of the fire is under investigation because it appears to have started in a second-floor closet in the vacant building.     The fire subsequently spread into the attic of the structure.

Assisting at the scene were firefighters from both the Arlington and Fairview fire departments.
