CORNWALL – The new superintendent at New York Military Academy in Cornwall is facing the challenge of rebuilding enrollment at the private military prep school.

John Dolan, who served as the principal of John S. Burke Catholic High School in Goshen for 18 years before he retired, replaced Jai Zhang as superintendent at NYMA.

Zhang left to take a job in China.

Dolan said while admissions have grown, they are still short of their goal.

“We are trying to get the numbers up. They have gone up. When I started there were seven [students] and we got up to 103 this year. We will have to see what happens.”

Dolan

Dolan joined NYMA in 2016 as director of admissions.

The school has a reputation of attracting an international student body. Dolan said that tradition is continuing.

NYMA is currently owned by Vincent Mo.

One of its most notable students was President Donald Trump.
