KINGSTON – March Gallagher will be on the November ballot as the Democratic Party’s candidate for Ulster County comptroller.

She defeated Lisa Cutton in a party convention Thursday night, pulling 14,000 weighted votes to Cutton’s 8,000.

Democratic Party Chairman Frank Cardinale spoke highly of both candidates. “For us it was an abundance of riches; we had two great women” and he said Gallagher “will make a very good comptroller.”

As of now, there is no Republican candidate for the post.

The winner in November will serve the remainder of former Comptroller Elliott Auerbach’s term from January 2020 through the end of 2021.

Auerbach stepped down recently to become a deputy state comptroller under Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli.
