Missing mom found hours after 3-year-old daughter seen wandering

Chief Robert Hertman provides an update as the search continues for the missing mother

TOWN OF WALLKILL – A woman, whose three-year-old daughter was found off Maples Road in the Town of Wallkill just before noon, was located six and a half hours later..

Amanda Light, 29, was being evaluated, Police Chief Robert Hertman said

There was concern as to why the child was found alone after MTA maintenance workers along nearby railroad tracks saw mother and daughter.

Law enforcement from several agencies conducted a ground search in nearby woods while a helicopter flew overhead.

About 6:30 p.m., Light was located in woods off Route 17M.

Wallkill Police were assisted on the scene by Town of Wallkill Supervisor Edward Diana, Town of Wallkill Office of Emergency Management Co-Director Louis Ingrassia, the New York State Police, Orange County Sheriff’s Office, City of Middletown Police, New York State Department Environmental Conservation Police and Forest Rangers, Mobil Life Support Services and the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.

Firefighters from Washington Heights, Circleville, Mechanicstown, Silver Lake, City of Middletown and Huguenot were also on the scene.
