KINGSTON – It has been a long time in the planning stages, but on Monday, July 1, Kingston buses and city routes will become part of the Ulster County Area Transit system.

Kingston Mayor Steven Noble, who championed the merger, said it will provide a number of benefits for city residents.

“We are going to lessen the wait times on our buses, shorten the commute for many of our riders and provide more services like the ability to have wi-fi, be able to provide an app for your phone, which will all be live on Monday, July 1,” the mayor said. “For the next six months, the county has offered free bus service within the City of Kingston and we want to encourage new riders to try this new system and I think it is something folks will be really happy with.”

Noble said UCAT will also include more frequent service and flagged pick-up between stops.
