POUGHKEEPSIE – Poughkeepsie City Hall will be operating on a limited schedule for Wednesday and Thursday this week.  Temperatures in the building have been “uncomfortably warm” for several days now.  It had nothing to do with the frequent ‘heat’ in the common council chambers. Blame it on inoperable air conditioners.

With high heat and humidity expected to stick around, City Administrator Marc Nelson announced that city hall will open at the regular time of 8:30 a.m. and will close at 1 p.m. on both.

During that time, the new air conditioning chiller unit for the entire building will be installed.  Nelson said that the original chiller was installed in 1973 and, at the time, the anticipated life expectancy of the unit was 25-30 years.

The original unit is now 46 years old and has required maintenance in the past.
