WEST POINT – U.S. Senator Charles Schumer (D-NY) commented on the state of U.S.-Iranian tensions, following the attack on two Japanese tankers last Thursday. The Senate Minority Leader was at West Point on Friday.

Following a classified hearing on Thursday attended by President Trump, Schumer said caution is being taken to not, “go bumbling into war.”

“These conflicts always have a way of escalating, so there’s got to be a careful plan and strategy,” said Schumer. “The best way to make sure everything is done well is to require that congress approve of any funding for military action in Iran.”

That funding would be approved through the National Defense Authorization Act of 2020.

As of Friday morning, the president called off a series of planned air strikes minutes before they were to happen.   Schumer said there is not a clear course of action laid out yet.
