TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE – A man reportedly using a school bus with the markings covered up attempted to abduct a Titusville Elementary School student on Wednesday morning, Arlington Central School District Officials said Friday.

The child told authorities that an “unknown” yellow bus approached her bus stop at the Shadybrook Trailer Park on Old Manchester Road.  The student said that the bus had black stripes and the number “83” on it in addition to having the lettering covered up.  The student noted that it didn’t have the same “look” as the Arlington school buses in that the front was “different” and it did not have tinted windows.
The bus was empty, except for the driver, who was described as a bald dark skinned man between 5’8” and 5’11” tall.

The man waved the student to get on the bus. The student refused and walked away. The student’s mother and older sister witnessed the incident. The bus then drove off.

The principal learned about this incident Thursday afternoon and immediately called the School Resource Officer who interviewed the student and her family. The Dutchess County Sherriff’s Office has issued a bulletin to other police agencies describing the bus and the driver, is investigating and continuing to monitor the situation.

Anyone with information about the incident or the bus is asked to call the Dutchess County Sherriff’s office at 845-486-3800.
