TOWN OF GOSHEN – Orange County Executive Steven Neuhaus is home, after a six-month deployment in Iraq.  The Naval Reserve lieutenant commander made a pair of surprise appearances on Friday.

One was the groundbreaking ceremony for the Amy’s Kitchen food production facility in the Town of Goshen.  He received a standing ovation.

He also surprised his young children at their elementary school.

Neuhaus called his deployment an eye-opening experience.

“I had a front row seat on the major affairs going on in the world. I was in Iraq with the special forces and got a chance to meet the best that America has to offer, men and women, Green Berets, Navy Seals, special forces, and it’s really enlightening. I do appreciate this country even more than I did before I left.”

Neuhaus was deployed to the Middle East for six months.  He said modern technology, including face time, kept him in touch with his family, and with county business.
