Pair of porch pirates arrested in cellphone ordering scam

ORANGEBURG – Two New York City men were arrested by Orangetown Police following investigation into a cellphone ordering scam.

Police had spotted a suspicious man enter a residential property and remove a delivered package from the front steps of the Parkway Drive South home in Orangeburg.

A vehicle containing the two occupants, David Sanchez Diaz, 31, of Manhattan, and Edward Alexander Rivera Lopez, 27, of the Bronx, was stopped. It was determined the package they had was stolen and they stated they were involved in a cellphone ordering scam.

Sanchez Diaz was also found in possession of a large quantity of prescription Endocet pills for which he did not have a prescription.

The two men allegedly were paid to retrieve a package containing a fraudulently obtained cellphone, which was sent to the residence under a different name.

Sanchez Diaz was charged with felony criminal possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor petit larceny.

Rivera Lopez was charged with petit larceny and trespass.

Both were sent to the Rockland County Jail without bail.
