GOSHEN – The Town of Goshen has asked Merlin Entertainments to temporarily suspend grading and earth-moving work at the site of the Legoland theme park that is under construction. The order came following runoff from the site.

Project spokesman Matthew Besterman said they had “already voluntarily stopped much of that work for several days this week, as we often do during periods of adverse weather.”

He said the construction team and engineers are working with town officials “to meet the challenges posed by this week’s rain, and we expect our grading and earth-moving to resume within the next few days.”

All other work at the site is continuing along with road work on Route 17, Besterman said.

The project is on target for a 2020 opening, he said.

Meanwhile, State Department of Environmental Conservation officials said they inspect the site regularly and have issued notices of violation when they are found. The last one was issued was on April 29.

“Goshen, as a Municipal MS4, is also responsible for enforcing compliance with the construction permit. Goshen has taken appropriate action at the site,” a spokeswoman said.
