NEW CITY – A satellite veterans’ center has been opened at Clarkstown Town Hall.

The VA created the Vet Center Program in 1979 in effort to meet the needs of veterans returning from combat.

Vet Centers and Mobile Vet Centers provide community-based counseling for a wide range of social and psychological services, including professional readjustment counseling, outreach, and referral care.

The services are available to eligible veterans, active duty service members, including National Guard and Reserve components, and their families.

Vet center services are free.  Records are kept confidential and separate from the VA and Department of Defense.

“There is such a need in Rockland County and it is a great service for our veterans,” said Susan Branam, director of the county’s Veterans Service Agency.

“Having access to these free services in Clarkstown is a great step forward in providing for our veterans’ mental well-being,” said County Executive Edwin Day.
