Skateboarder struck by car

PORT JERVIS – A 20-year-old man is in the hospital after he was struck by a car while skateboarding right outside City Hall in Port Jervis.

Police Chief William Worden said the incident occurred around 9:14 p.m. Saturday as the man was skateboarding at the intersection of Sussex and Hammond streets when a 72-year-old Pike County, stopped at the stop sign and then proceeded to drive forward when the boarder also moved ahead.

Worden said it is unclear if the man was knocked off his board and under the car or if he tried to jump off.

He was taken to Bon Secours Community Hospital and transferred to Orange Regional Medical Center in the Town of Wallkill where he was treated for a bruised head and body lacerations.

The incident remains under investigation.
