COPAKE – The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a car fire in which a man and dog died.
Hillsdale Fire Company and Community rescue Squad were called to the scene minutes after 12 a.m. Friday for a car on fire in a driveway at 543 North Mountain Road in Copake and when the flames were extinguished, they found the man’s body in the front passenger area.
The victim has not yet been identified. An autopsy is scheduled at Ellis Hospital to determine the cause of death.
The sheriff’s office, the State Office of Fire Prevention and Control and the Columbia County Cause and Origin Team are investigating the incident. Assisting at the scene was the Columbia County Fire Coordinator’s Office.
