MONTICELLO – The state-approved sports betting at Resorts World Catskills in the Town of Thompson as well as the other three upstate casinos will spur more interest in the facility, Sullivan County Partnership President Marc Baez said.

The wagering, which is expected to begin later this summer will be another tool and create more interest in Resorts World Catskills, which has been operating in its first year with large deficits.

But, Baez said “the flood gates” are opening in Sullivan County now in terms of economic development.

“It’s the first year and we have other properties that are going to be coming in; the waterpark opened up recently, we have other properties that will be opening up in Sullivan County that will support all of the activities that take place in Sullivan County and I am sure that that will certainly positively benefit the casino and its numbers in the near future and for the long term,” Baez said.

“As we work towards opening our Resorts World Catskills Casino Resorts sports book, we look forward to bringing our guests, sports fans, and visitors the best experience in the market,” said spokeswoman Talya Shlang. “Our sports book construction is already complete, and we look forward to opening it at the first opportunity – which we expect will be in late summer and in time for football season. Resorts World Catskills thanks the New York State Gaming Commission for its hard work in moving the regulatory process forward.”

The state’s Gaming Commission approved the sports betting at the casinos on Monday.
