HealthAlliance Hospital secures final approval to develop new hospital

KINGSTON – The HealthAlliance of the Hudson Valley has received full project approval from the state health department meaning the $92.9 million Kingston project will now move forward.

The state agency’s nod to the hospital’s certificate of need is the final administrative milestone.

“When completed, the transformation of the HealthAlliance Hospital on Mary’s Avenue will enable HealthAlliance to deliver an even higher level of care, locally, through enhanced facilities and services, world-leading healthcare technologies and new programs,” said Michael Israel, president of Westchester Medical Center Health Network. HealthAlliance is a member of that group.

The new hospital will feature the addition of a new, two-story, 79,000 square foot building adjoining the current facility, along with a full renovation of the 48,000 square feet of space within the existing hospital.

The new expanded hospital will include a 175-beds, a new 25.000 SF emergency care center that will incorporate special services for cardiac observation and behavioral health; a newly constructed 10-bed intensive care unit, along with a six-based “stepdown” unit, providing an intermediate level of care between the ICU and the new hospital’s medical-surgical wards.

Most of the patient rooms will be private.

The hospital will also include a new birthing center, a new imaging department and fully remodeled centers for ambulatory surgery, infusion therapy and endoscopy.

The Broadway campus of HealthAlliance will be converted into a medical or ‘health village’ – a focal point for the area’s outpatient healthcare and related needs.”

The combined projects on the Mary’s Avenue and Broadway campuses, known as the Healthy Neighborhood Initiative, are expected to cost $135.9 million. The state will be picking up $88.8 million of the price tag with the remainder coming from Westchester Medical Center Health, HealthAlliance and a capital fundraising campaign.
