NEWBURGH – Newburgh City Councilwoman Hillary Rayford will take a breather from politics and is not seeking another term this fall. But, the outspoken councilwoman said she is not ruling out another run in the future, including the possibility of seeking higher office.

“I’m not going to run this year to take a breather and really look at what has transpired because there is a difference of implementing something and not seeing the result,” she said. “I want to take look and see what has happened after three-and-a-half years in the city council.”

Rayford has been a watchdog of city finances and has repeatedly called for a forensic audit of the city’s spending.

“Hopefully in another four years, perhaps I’ll run for mayor,” she said.
