KINDERHOOK – A 17-year-old girl and a 15-year-old juvenile, who police did not say was a boy or girl, have been arrested and charged with arson in connection with a shed fire at the Kinderhoff Group Home on Route 203 in the Town of Kinderhook.

The fire, reported just before 11 a.m. on Monday, June 10, was extinguished quickly by firefighters from Kinderhook, Valatie, and Niverville before it could cause significant damage to items inside.

Following investigation by the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office and interviews with the two suspects, they were charged with entering the locked structure without consent of the owner and setting fire to materials inside a crawl space.

The 17-year-old was issued appearance tickets for Kinderhook Town Court and the 15-year-old was issued juvenile appearance tickets returnable to the Columbia County Probation Department.

In addition to the fire agencies, the Columbia County District Attorney’s Office and County Attorney’s Office assisted with this investigation.
