CARMEL – Carly Regan may only be a junior at Carmel High School but the young Carmel woman who is interning at the Middlebranch Veterinary Hospital in Southeast has quite a future when it comes to animals.

In conjunction with her 11th grade 20 percent project which requires students to undergo a community service undertaking they are passionate about, Carly decided to raise funds for the Putnam Humane Society.

After collecting $250 from family and friends, Carly’s goal of $1,000 was far from being reached. She participated during the Christmas holidays by conducting a fundraiser at the St. James Church Holiday Bazaar that netted an amazing $600 from generous donors.

Still shy of her goal, Carly reached out to aunts, uncles and cousins residing outside the area who made up the difference.

Carly presented a check for $1,000 to Michele Dugan, executive director of the humane society over the weekend.

Carly and her family own two shelter dogs. Daisy and Brody reside in a loving home. Carly admitted being passionate when it comes to “four legged family members especially those living in shelters where no matter how wonderful and caring staff may be, all dogs and cats deserve to be loved and cared for in a family environment.”

Dugan called Carly an “amazing young lady whose heart is in the right place. We so very much appreciate what she has done for us.”

Carly’s mom, Michelle, also expressed pride in her daughter’s efforts. “Our family is proud of what she has accomplished and for her great goals and aspirations for the future.”

Carly’s plans once she graduates from Carmel High a year from now are to attend college and study veterinary medicine before hanging a shingle outside her own veterinary hospital reading “Dr. Carly Regan!”
