CARMEL – A truck rolled up in front of the Vincent Leibell Veterans Home in Carmel Saturday and within minutes a small army of Carmel Rotarians unloaded slightly used patio furniture allowing the residents of the only home of its kind in the state to enjoy the out-of-doors.

Rotary President Scott Fisher was contacted some time ago by Karl Rohde, director of Veterans Services in Putnam, who requested the organization whose motto ‘Service Beyond Self’ is known worldwide, donate used patio furniture to the home since the current lawn chairs, lounges and tables were in poor condition.

Fisher brought the request to his membership.

One of the Rotarians, Dan Coniff, serves as an executive with the Boy Scout Council of Putnam and Westchester. He advised that the scouts had received a donation of a large amount of lawn and patio furniture which was being sold online to raise money for Camp Durland’s refurbishment in Putnam Valley.

The Rotarians and scouts agreed on a price and the Boy Scouts even agreed to deliver the slightly used furniture to the Veterans Home off Drewville Road.

Members of the Rotary even set up the furniture for the appreciative vets.
