PORT JERVIS – Summer vacation begins in less than three weeks for Port Jervis school kids and finding something to do shouldn’t be too difficult.  That’s particularly true for bikers, who have a new pump track, which opened recently in the Riverside Park.

The track, said to be perhaps the largest of its type on the east coast, was largely an effort of the Outdoor Club of Port Jervis.

The project drew praise from several during a recent Common Council meeting, including Gina Fitzpatrick, a mother, and Mayor Kelly Decker.

“This is something fantastic for the kids, as Mrs. Fitzpatrick said.  Her kids are down there.  Lots of other kids that I’ve run into absolutely love it.  It’s fantastic and free for the community,” Decker said.

The pump track can be used by bikers, scooter riders and skateboarders.

Also during the summer, the Port Jervis Youth Center will be open from 11 to 5.  West End Beach will open on Friday June 14 and will be open Saturday and Sunday, 11 to 6, weekdays 12 to 6, and closed on Tuesday and Wednesday.
