Separate shootings in Newburgh leave one dead, two wounded

NEWBURGH – Newburgh police received a shot spotter notification for 128 S. Robinson Ave. Upon arrival officers located a large crowd fighting in the parking lot.

While handling the fight the police department received a shot spotter notification for 140 S. Clark Street. Near Bridge Street and Carson Avenue officers located a man who had a gunshot wound.

While on both scenes the police department received a call for two men that had arrived at St. Luke’s hospital with gunshot wounds. It was learned they had been shot at 128 S. Robinson Ave and left that area prior to police arrival.

The man found in the area of Bridge Street and Carson Avenue was transported to St. Luke’s hospital where he was later pronounced dead. He was identified as Cherod Gayle, 20, of Newburgh.

Police identified the two involved in the Robinson Avenue incident as Anthony Burden and Dejon Jones, both 28.

These incidents are currently being investigated by the City of Newburgh Police Department, New York State Police Major Crimes, and the Orange County District Attorney’s office.
