Man charged with driving tractor while drunk

MILAN – A Milan man has been charged with several crimes and violations after being caught driving a lawn tractor on State Route 199 in Milan on June 2.

The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office has charged Joseph White, 53, with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, driving while intoxicated, and operating without a court ordered ignition interlock device, all misdemeanors as well as open container of alcohol in motor vehicle and depositing refuse on a Highway, both traffic infractions.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, at 5:20 p.m. on June 2, a deputy sheriff patrolling State Route 199 in the Town of Milan, observed a man operating a Husqvarna lawn tractor eastbound on the highway with an open container of alcohol.   After stopping the tractor, it was determined that the operator, identified as Joseph White, was intoxicated.

A check revealed that White’s New York State driving privilege was revoked for a prior DWI conviction and he also had two active suspensions.  Additionally, he had an ignition interlock device restriction for any motor vehicle operated. White was processed and released to appear in the Town of Milan Court on June 29.
