POUGHKEEPSIE (June 5) – The premier industry publication Business of Fashion has released its Global Ranking of Fashion Schools for 2019 and Marist College is top ranked for both undergraduate fashion design and fashion business and management.

Based in London, Business of Fashion has a world-wide following as a daily news resource in the fashion industry. The 2019 rankings represent a revamped process for Business of Fashion. In an article released with the rankings, Business of Fashion noted, “We have removed the numerical ranking employed in previous years’ reports and moved to Badges of Excellence which recognize a school’s strengths in four key areas: Best Overall, Best in Global Influence, Best in Learning Experience and Best in Long-Term Value. The top performing programs in each key index were awarded a Badge of Excellence for that category and shortlisted for inclusion in our list.”

Using 30 metrics and more than 13,000 responses from students and alumni, Business of Fashion analyzed 66 schools worldwide. Marist was one of 37 schools recognized for fashion design and one of just 15 recognized for fashion business and management. Marist received Badges of Excellence for Learning Experience and Long-Term Value in fashion design and for Overall Program, Learning Experience, and Long-Term Value for fashion business and management.

“Continuing to be included in Business of Fashion’s global ranking is a testament to the many strengths of Marist’s Fashion Program,” said Sean Kaylor, Vice President of Enrollment, Marketing, and Communication. “Business of Fashion is a key voice in this industry and the ranking is based on thorough research and, notably, feedback from students and alumni. We appreciate the recognition of our stellar program.”

Marist’s Fashion Program boasts impressive statistics: in the last decade, the program has grown from 200 total students to about 500. Nearly 90% of fashion majors study abroad at least once during their four years. Students also have the opportunity to participate in Marist in Manhattan, an internship program that uses the campus’s proximity to New York City—a fashion industry hub—to full advantage. Earlier this year, the College opened a center on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan in the heart of the Fashion District. At the Poughkeepsie campus in January, the College opened the renovated and expanded Steel Plant, the Fashion Program’s new home, a state-of-the-art facility. In May, a fashion design major won the prestigious Council of Fashion Designers of America Liz Claiborne Design Scholarship. The student produced fashion magazine FM/AM has twice won a Gold Crown Award from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association (CSPA) of Columbia University, an international student press organization.
