Dutchess County Sheriff's Det. Kurt Twaddell gears up

POUGHKEEPSIE – A Poughkeepsie man with 44 arrests under his belt barricaded himself in an apartment at 204 North Hamilton Street in the City of Poughkeepsie on Tuesday and city police hostage negotiators talked him into surrendering some three hours later.

Lorenzo Jackson, Jr., 55, was reported to have threatened to shoot people with a gun shortly after 10 a.m.

City patrol officers, detectives and hostage negotiators, along with Dutchess County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene and after the negotiators made contact with him, Jackson existed the building without further incident.

City Police Captain Richard Wilson said Jackson is no stranger to the law.

In addition to his long rap sheet, police said there are several current warrants out for his arrest including three for criminal contempt, and vehicle and traffic violations. There are also outstanding warrants for his arrest by Poughkeepsie Town Police, Wilson said.

Mobile Life Support Services was also on the scene.

The investigation is continuing.
