TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE – Arlington firefighters quickly extinguished a blaze in an apartment within a single-family house Wednesday afternoon.  At around 2:45 p.m., the firefighters were dispatched to 19 Seitz Terrace for reports of smoke coming from the structure.

Arlington Fire Chief Bill Steenbergh said his firefighters were on scene within minutes and began making entry into the structure that was filled with smoke. The residence was searched and found to be unoccupied.

A tenant in the downstairs apartment had exited the building and was treated for smoke inhalation and transported to a local hospital by Mobile Life Support Services.

Chief Steenbergh said the fire appears to have started in the kitchen area of the basement apartment but that the final investigation would determine the cause and origin.

No firefighters were injured during their work but Steenbergh noted that a pet cat perished in the fire.

The Arlington Fire Department was assisted at the scene by Poughkeepsie Fire Department Engine 2, Mobile Life Support Services, Town of Poughkeepsie Police, Central Hudson, and the Town of Poughkeepsie Building Department.

Dutchess County Clerk records indicate that the house is owned by Christopher Rogers and is listed as a single-family residence.
