WHITE PLAINS – A Newburgh gang leader pled guilty in federal court in White Plains on Monday to shooting a man to death while he was playing cards in front of a laundromat on Lander Street in Newburgh.

Skyler Davis, 22, also known as “S-Dot,” admitted killing Samuel Stubbs, 67, during a robbery at the card game. Two other men with whom Stubbs was playing were shot and wounded during the gunfire.

Davis faces 25 years to life in prison when sentenced later this year.

According to court documents and the indictment, from at least 2014 through June 2017, the Southside gang was a criminal enterprise centered in and around the intersection of South and Chambers streets in an area of Newburgh known as the “Southside.”

In order to gain funds for the gang, protect the gang’s territory, and promote the gang’s standing, members of Southside engaged in, among other things, narcotics trafficking, robbery, and acts involving murder. They sold heroin, crack cocaine, and marijuana in the gang’s territory, promoted their gang affiliation on social media, possessed firearms, and engaged in shootings as part of their gang membership.

Davis, who was one of the gang’s leaders, decided along with others, to rob a high-stakes card game that Stubbs was playing outside. Davis and his co-conspirators approached the card game with guns drawn and started shooting, striking three men, including Stubbs, who died.
