Kalitta Air has dramatically driven up cargo tonnage flowing through Stewart

STEWART AIRPORT – New air cargo service has commenced at New York Stewart International Airport as Kalitta Air began daily weekday flights to Los Angeles.

One of its steady costumers at the Newburgh-area airport is the US Postal Service. The cargo carrier is flying one daily flight to and from Stewart Mondays through Fridays aboard a Boeing 747 jet.

The Ypsilanti, Michigan-based company was launched in November 2000 by sole owner Conrad Kalitta.

According to trade publication “Air Cargo World,” the airline had originally planned on setting up shop at JFK but opted instead to locate it at New York Stewart.

Kalitta owns 24 Boeing 747-400 freightliners and eight Boeing 767-300 freightliners.
