NEW LEBANON – That six-foot-long pet alligator that was reported stolen from a residence in the Town of New Lebanon, has been found.

The reptile was reported missing to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office on May 25, the owner believing it had been gator-napped.

On Monday, the sheriff’s office reported the alligator was located on a neighbor’s property on June 2. The owner responded and safely brought him home.

Investigators continue to explore whether the animal was stolen from the Cemetery Road residence or if it walked away.

Deputies said the owner is both licensed and permitted to possess the big reptile.
