ROSCOE – A Northborough, Massachusetts man drowned while fly fishing with friends in the Beaverkill on Beaverkill River Road on the Sullivan/Delaware County border at around 4:13 p.m. on Sunday.
State Police identified the victim as Lawrence Burke, 66, who became separated from his friends and was located several hundred yards away in the water where he was pulled from the river by people already in the area.
State Police from the Liberty barracks performed CPR and used an AED on the victim until emergency medical service personnel arrived.
CPR was continued by EMS while he was transported by ambulance to Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. He was pronounced dead by an emergency room physician.
Police said there were no signs of foul play.
