Yonkers stabbing victim dies; police seek public help

YONKERS – Yonkers Police to 1 Schroeder Street at On Thursday, May 23, at approximately 12:30 AM on a report of a group fight with a male stabbed in the neck. Upon arrival officers located the victim. First responders rendered medical aid and transported the victim to a local area trauma center where he was placed on artificial life support and listed in grave condition.

Police report today that the victim, Kentrail Newton, 25, of Warburton Avenue in Yonkers, has died.

Detectives from the Major Case Unit and Crime Scene Unit responded to the scene, interviewing subjects and witnesses, reviewing surveillance video, and processing forensic evidence. Investigation has yielded that the victim and a group on Schroeder Street, who were known to each other, engaged in a dispute that escalated into violence when a suspect emerged from the group and allegedly struck out at the victim with a sharp instrument causing severe injury to the victim’s neck; the victim collapsed at scene and the suspect fled the area. Investigators are working the case and actively developing information in effort to identify the perpetrator and effect an arrest.
