KINGSTON – Mayor Steven Noble could think of no better venue to roll out the Kingston City municipal ID card program than at this coming Sunday’s Multicultural Festival at T.R. Gallo Park.

Kingston is the second Mid-Hudson city to launch the program, following Middletown. The cities of Poughkeepsie and Newburgh are in the process of developing their programs.

Noble, who signed up to be the first recipient of an ID card in his city, is excited about the program and its benefits for residents.

“We feel the ID cards are really going to give Kingston residents an opportunity to be identified, to be able to have a sense of pride in connection to their community and to know that everyone over the age of 14 will be able to get an ID card and we have some great local businesses that have been willing to provide discounts to people who show their ID card,” the mayor said.

Following the Sunday launch, IDs may be purchased at city hall every weekday.

Noble expects the city to issue as many as 500 cards in the first year.
