PUTNAM COUNTY – Services for Memorial Day, the day set aside to remember with gratitude and pride all those who served and died for our country and freedom, were well attended throughout Putnam County over the weekend with large crowds attending observances in Lake Carmel, Carmel, Mahopac, Brewster, Putnam Lake, Kent, Patterson, Putnam Valley and Cold Spring.

Amidst the red, white and blue of Old Glory, the theme of Memorial Day was recited time and time again: “We honor the brave men and women of our Armed Forces who gave their lives to protect our country–to those who made the ultimate sacrifice and to their families, we thank you!”

Putnam County’s Director of Veterans Services Karl Rohde described the day as one where “Americans honor our fallen as well as the living. Those who died in combat did so allowing us to be free and live good lives.”

The national anthem and God Bless America were sung all throughout the weekend at the events.
