STEWART AIRPORT – Simone Development Companies is in the planning stages of constructing a 128 room Marriott brand hotel and an 850-seat conference center immediately adjacent to New York Stewart International Airport.

With limited large-scale conference space in the immediate Orange-Ulster-Dutchess area, officials are encouraged with the prospect of that project being built.

Simone hopes to develop other sections of the property but a company official declined to provide any details of the plans.

Other hotels are in various stages of planning and development across from the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park and at the former Hudson River Psychiatric Center in the Town of Poughkeepsie as well as along the Hudson River in Highland.

One problem exists will all future facilities – there is no transportation connection between those areas at New York Stewart International, which would, in theory, be the gateway for the incoming guests. That, said Dutchess County Tourism President Mary Kay Vrba, is an issue that must be addressed.
