Kingston man injured when train strikes vehicle

KINGSTON – A Kingston man was injured when he drove onto the railroad tracks at the Foxhall Avenue crossing in Kingston late Sunday morning and was struck by a southbound CSX freight train.

Silvan Cruz, 72, was driving a Toyota minivan when he struck the crossing gate and panicked on the tracks, said Police Lt. Thierry Croizer. The train struck the rear passenger side of the vehicle.

Cruz sustained a head injury but was out of his vehicle when officers arrived on the scene. He was taken to the Broadway campus of HealthAlliance of the Hudson Valley.
