Kingston man injured when train strikes vehicle

KINGSTON – A Kingston man was injured when he drove onto the railroad tracks at the Foxhall Avenue crossing in Kingston late Sunday morning and was struck by a southbound CSX freight train.

          Silvan Cruz, 72, was driving a 1999 Toyota minivan when he struck the crossing gate and panicked on the tracks, said Police Lt. Thierry Croizer. The train struck the rear passenger side of the vehicle.

          He sustained a head injury, but was out of his vehicle when officers arrived on the scene.

          Cruz was taken to the Broadway campus of HealthAlliance of the Hudson Valley for treatment.
