Drugs, guns seized in Newburgh raids

NEWBURGH – Police in the City of Newburgh raided two apartments at 508 Liberty Street early Thursday morning, recovered three handguns and a substantial amount of heroin and arrested five people.

 The raid was conducted by city police along with Town of Newburgh Police and the Hudson Valley Safe Streets Task Force.

Officers executed search warrants at two apartments at 508 Liberty Street following a months-long investigation into the sale of drugs.

Det. Sgt. Joseph Rutigliano said the raids were productive.

“We recovered three loaded handguns, one of which was reported stolen, as well as 2,118 decks of heroin weighing a total of 53 grams, over 97 grams of cocaine and over $10,000 in cash,” Rutigliano said.

The heroin had a street value of between $50,000 and $60,000 and the cocaine, about $2,500.

Arrested were:

  • Abimael Bruno, 37, who was charged with five counts of drug possession and three counts of criminal possession of a weapon;
  • Samir Lantigua, 25, who was charged with four counts of drug possession and two counts of weapons possession;
  • Alex Santos-Martinez, who was charged with four counts of drug possession and two counts of weapons possession;
  • Christine Guzman, 26, who was charged with four counts of drug possession and two counts of weapons possession;

Micaela Sanabria, 34, who was charged one count each of drug and weapon possession.
