Drugs in the mail leads to arrest

NEWBURGH – A New Windsor man is under arrest after he picked up a package mailed to him that contained illegal drugs.

Newburgh City Police were tipped off to the suspected drug package by the US Postal Service. They stopped the vehicle and 531 grams of cocaine in the package.

As a result, Randy Montero, 31, of New Windsor was charged with two felony counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance.

The driver, Melvin Santana-Ramirez, 33, also of New Windsor, was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

Newburgh City Police were assisted by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, US Postal Service, Drug Enforcement Administration and FBI-led Hudson Valley Safe Streets Task Force.
