One dead in Columbia County crash

COPAKE – A Norwalk, Connecticut man was killed when his vehicle crossed over lanes and into the path of an oncoming car on Route 23 just east of Columbia County Route 7 in the Town of Copake.

The sheriff’s office said shortly before midnight on Saturday, May 11, they were called to the scene where they found a westbound Toyota Highlander driven by Jaime Wing, 42, for an unknown reason crossed into the eastbound lane and struck a Saab driven by Harle Edwards, 28, of Craryville.  Wing’s SUV then went over a guard rail and struck a utility pole where it came to rest.

Wing was transported to Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson where he was pronounced dead.

Edwards was transported to Albany Medical Center where he was treated for facial injuries and a broken arm.

The accident remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office with an autopsy scheduled.

Community Rescue Squad, Greenport Rescue Squad, Craryville Fire Company, Hillsdale Fire Company and State Police assisted at the scene.
