POUGHKEEPSIE – The new Dutchess County Office for the Aging facility on Delafield Street in Poughkeepsie has opened.

“This new facility just gives us, under one roof, the ability to provide help and service to the seniors of Dutchess County,” said County Executive Marcus Molinaro as he chatted with seniors while they enjoyed their lunch in the new building.

The previous location was a run-down old warehouse in the city that Molinaro jokes had an “elevator (that) was older than the building.”

The new office has ground floor access for visitors and a state of the art kitchen that allows for efficient cooking and packaging of the county’s meal delivery program for seniors that takes place five days per week.

Office for the Aging Director Todd Tancredi was providing tours of the new space and said “this is just a fantastic site that allows us to better serve the seniors of Dutchess County.  Having everything in one place makes us so much more efficient and allows us to do a much better job serving the seniors of Dutchess County.”

Poughkeepsie Mayor Robert Rolison joined the tour and met with several of his constituents as they were enjoying a hot meal.  “Having this facility in the city is yet another example of the great things that are possible when different levels of government work together.  The county has demonstrated its commitment to the seniors of Dutchess and having it easily accessible for city seniors of Poughkeepsie is certainly a benefit for us” Rolison said. In 2018 the OFA served more than 13,000 individual seniors in need of long-term care, caregivers and family members through a wide variety of community-based services including home-delivered meals, home care, legal services, and insurance counseling.
