NYPD officer from Rockland County loses battle with 9/11-related illness

PEARL RIVER – New York City Police Office Patrick McGovern, a lifelong resident of the Town of Orangetown, died on Thursday, May 2 following a battle with a 9/11-related illness.

          He was 43.

          McGovern was a member of the police force for 19 year stationed at the 49th Precinct and Bronx Zoo detail.

          He was a 1990 graduate of St. Margaret School and a 1994 graduate of Pearl River High School. He also earned an associate degree from Rockland Community College.

          He is survived by his mother, Elizabeth, brothers Peter and James and their wives, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

          A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:45 a.m. on Monday at St. Margaret Roman Catholic Church in Pearl River. Burial will follow at Ascension Cemetery in Airmont.

          Visitation will be held on Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home in Pearl River.
