LIBERTY – The Catskills Food Hub formally opened its doors on Friday providing a means to link locally sourced farm and food products with buyers.

The hub, based in Liberty, will make those connections via an online market, which also launched, said hub Executive Director Cat Wilson.

“It’s great. I am already getting orders in from local restaurants and caterers and I am already getting inquiries from local farmers who would like to work with the hub,” Wilson said.

The Catskills Food Hub project began as an initiative of the Sullivan County Industrial Development Agency and is now a separate 501c3 organization.

“From day one, the intent of this project has been to help the agricultural sector in Sullivan County,” said Ira Steingart, chairman of the IDA.

Once buyers place their orders online, the farmers will bring them to the food hub for pick up.  The facility has cooler, cold and dry storage areas to accommodate the products that are brought in.
