NEWBURGH – A 16-year-old male student at NFA Main brought a knife to school on Monday. When the community resource officer, a member of Newburgh City Police, saw it sticking out of the youth’s pants pocket, he tried to retrieve. That caused several cuts to his hand. The officer was treated and released at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital.

At about 10 Monday morning, administrators were talking to the boy’s mother, who was upset. Her son was present. When CRO Humberto Perez spotted the serrated kitchen knife, he asked the boy about it and tried to retrieve it, resulting in a struggle.

No charges have been filed as of this time.
