Stanford man arrested after standoff with troopers

STANFORD – State Police arrested a Stanford man after he made threats to shoot state troopers during a domestic dispute.
Police were called to a report that Robert Spaulding, 34, had several rifles and was in a domestic dispute with the victims still in the house on Route 82 in the Town of Stanford.
State Police crisis negotiators persuaded Spaulding to let the occupants leave the home and after 4 ½ hours of negotiations, he surrendered and was taken into custody.
Investigation revealed he had two illegal assault weapons.
Spaulding he was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and making a terroristic threat, both as felonies.  He is in Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $100,000 cash bail or $200,000 bond.
State Police were assisted in the December 26 incident that occurred just before 9 p.m. by the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office and Stanfordville Fire Department.
