GOSHEN – A Monroe man has been indicted by an Orange County grand jury in connection with the death of another Monroe man.
Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler said Samuel Del Cid Hernandez,
31, was charged with the October murder.
The grand jury found Hernandez had been involved in a physical altercation and as a result the victim was stabbed several times resulting in the murder and manslaughter indictment.
Louis Rivera, 25, was killed in the hallway outside Hernandez’s apartment on the evening October 12 to 13.
Hernandez, Rivera and several other people were drinking at Hernandez’s apartment and at some point, words were exchanged and the altercation occurred between Rivera and another partygoer. Rivera left the apartment and went into the hall outside. Hernandez took a knife from the kitchen, followed him into the hallway and stabbed him several times.
“Weapons and alcohol are never a good combination,” said Hoovler. “Unfortunately, it’s all too often that we hear of tragedies when people drink to excess, arm themselves, and injure or kill their friends during arguments.”
