WASHINGTON – The Federal Railroad Administration has awarded $2.3 million to Metro-North Railroad for testing of Positive Train Control communications.
The funding will pay for PTC system testing to measure communications system performance to predict, identify, and replicate communications issues affecting the railroad’s operations as well as develop and validate mitigation approaches to address communications challenges along the Northeast Corridor.
Installation of Positive Train Control is continuing on the rail system. It is designed to prevent unsafe speed movements as a train travels along its route. TPC possibly could have prevented the deadly derailment at Spuyten Duyvil a few years ago.
