Volkman
POUGHKEEPSIE – Mayor Robert Rolison appointed attorney Scott Volkman as a Poughkeepsie City Court judge. Volkman, who was rated “highly qualified” by the Judicial Screening Committee of the Dutchess County Bar Association, will replace Judge Thomas O’Neill on January 1, 2019 as he has reached the mandatory retirement age.
Volkman is a lifelong resident of Poughkeepsie who received his law degree from the Benjamin Cardozo School of Law in 1985.
He was admitted to the Bar in 1986 and joined the firm of Quartararo and Quartararo in 1988. That firm merged with Gellert and Klein in 2002 and one year later he became of counsel for the law form of Stenger, Roberts, Davis and Diamond LLP.
Volkman served as town attorney for Pleasant Valley, Amenia and Pawling
and as counsel to the Dutchess County Legislature since 2003.
Rolison said Volkman brings to the bench “a keen intellect and over 30 years of legal experience and practical application of specific rules related to both civil and criminal law.”
The mayor also had kind words for the retiring O’Neill calling him “a compassionate and understanding judge.”
