NEWBURGH – More 200 volunteers, members of the World Mission Society Church of God and Saving the Earth from A to Z spent much of the day Sunday cleaning up the streets in the City of Newburgh.
Spokesman Joey Seymour said the effort was part of a worldwide community movement.
“The idea behind it – and this has actually been proven by studies – that when you beautify an environment, especially an urban environment, where there is a lot of trash and graffiti and things like that and you remove those things, people are less likely to committee heinous crimes or any crimes, for that matter,” Seymour said.
The group cleaned up old washing machines, mattresses, tires and other discarded items tossed out on City Terrace, Johnston and Lander streets.
